About ZEROSUM
ZEROSUM is a Gainesville-based hardcore/uptempo/techno DJ and producer who wants to make people dance as much as he wants to dance.
Finding his love for electronic music through random bootleg trance CDs his dad had laying around when he was about 6 years old, it wasn't until his freshman year of high school when a friend introduced him to dubstep that it clicked. Being blown away by how deep, aggressive, and grimey it was, ZEROSUM was hooked and listened to it religiously all throughout high school. It became his first serious foray into darker forms of electronic music. Around that time he also fell in love with IDM, and loved how complex and boundary-pushing it was. This has led to the type of music he produces and plays today: dark, aggressive beats.
Being a first generation Chinese-American and being the first in his family to be born in the United States, consuming and partaking in the Chinese-American culture with things as anime and video games further formed a interest in electronic music. This along the fact that ZEROSUM took piano lessons as a young boy led to music being a central part of growing up.
Eventually he found interest in fashion and design, which led to him creating a recognizable image for himself in his early DJ career. This has resulted in him combining futurism, post-humanism, cyberpunk culture and the like into his aesthetic. Read more on Last.fm.
