About MCR-T

MCR-T (Julian McCarthy) is a German artist from Berlin.

His music sits at the intersection of rap, club culture, and underground electronic music.
Born Julian McCarthy and raised in Berlin, he has become one of the most distinctive voices in the city’s scene. He’s best known as a DJ, producer, songwriter and live performer who brings his own vocals and rap energy into electronic music contexts, blurring lines between genres that are usually kept apart.

MCR-T is a central figure in Live From Earth , a Berlin collective that began as an independent music and art community and has expanded into a label, event organizer, fashion project and creative hub. The collective is known for challenging conventional boundaries in music and culture. MCR-T’s involvement with Live From Earth has been a defining part of his artistic identity, giving him a platform to experiment with sound and performance.

He initially made music under the alias MCNZI, producing heavy trap and ghetto-influenced tracks. That early period laid the foundation for his high-energy style. Around 2018 he introduced the MCR-T project, releasing his first EP KRAFT on the Live From Earth Klub imprint. This record marked a shift toward faster, harder electronic rhythms while still retaining the grit and playfulness of his earlier work.

Musically MCR-T draws from a wide palette: ghetto-tech, Miami bass, hip-hop and techno all feed into his approach. His productions often combine pounding, fast beats with vocal hooks and rap segments delivered with quick, direct energy. Live he will sometimes rap or sing over his own tracks, transforming a DJ set into something more performative and unpredictable.

Over the years he has released several EPs and full-length works, including My Voice My Weapon Of Choice and the album NOT THE SAME ≠. Tracks like My Barn My Rules, Buurman Uit Berlijn and others have become staples in his sets and helped him build a loyal following both in Europe and abroad.

MCR-T is also known for his energetic presence at clubs and festivals. He has appeared in Berlin venues like Berghain and Panorama Bar as part of Live From Earth Klub nights, where his sets are celebrated for their genre-crossing intensity. Outside Germany he has played in cities from London to Montreal, bringing his hybrid ghetto-tech and rave-influenced style to international audiences.

Beyond the music itself, MCR-T speaks openly about nightlife culture in Berlin. In interviews he has critiqued the increasing commercialization of techno and discussed how economic pressures are reshaping club life in the city he grew up in.

His work sits somewhere between club soundtrack, rap performance and underground rebellion. With each release and live show he pushes against neat category labels, building a sound that is at once aggressive, humorous, and deeply rooted in the energy of Berlin’s dancefloors.
