KVX
About KVX
1.) KVX (formally stylised Kovax) began in late 2015 with Joe Phillips and Isaac Turner joining Pete Freeth to try out a collection of songs he had been writing over the previous months. The three were pleased with the sound of their initial rehearsals and eventually brought second guitarist Dan Hey into, which really fleshed out the groove based riffs the band is built on.
The newly formed four-piece then played two secret shows to friends and fellow musicians as a test run of the material, which was well received. This lead to the planning of the band's full launch, which included the release of debut single 'Godot' in January 2016, along with b-side 'Marigolds', and a four day run of shows, including gigs at The Parish, in Huddersfield, and headlining an Inutero Presents show in Leeds.
Kvx then released their follow up single 'Monkeys' in June 2016, which was played on BBC Radio Leeds and Sheffield and lead to the band being featured in Discovered Magazine's 'The North' issue. The release of 'Monkeys' coincided with two short summer tours, during which Kvx played alongside British bands such as Youth Man, I Cried Wolf and Nova Hands and at events such as Live in Barnsley and Alt-Metal Fest in Manchester.
Following this Kvx then took time to work on new material, which was put to the test live in November on an 8 date tour with Nova Hands. The new material went down well, encapsulating the raw aggression and groove based pop-sensibilities the band are known for. Kvx then went into the studio at the beginning of December 2016 to work on their debut EP, which was released in May 2017.
On 17/04/2020 KVX released their second ep Agenda reveal.
2.) KVX is an all-female Cork band, whose influences include everything from Regina Spektor, Florence and the Machine, and Cathy Davey to Battles, Biffy Clyro and Reuben. And obviously, Mozart and Raymond Deane. Yummy. The band released a four track EP in 2007 entitled "the Actual EP", which received much critical acclaim from the band's friends and mums.
The band was formed in 2005 when the three martriarchs, Ciara Scally (guitar), Eimear O'Donovan (bass/vocals) and Niamh Collins (drums) started playing their various instruments, rather conveniently. Within a few months, Leah Hearne (guitar/vocals) and Daire O'Sullivan (violin/glockenspiel) had been drafted in, completing the band's line-up once and for all.
As an underage group, the band competed in every young competition going, from Blast:beat to 2fm's School of Rock - always the bridesmaids, never the brides. In 2008 four of the band went into their final year of secondary school, a gruelling year for all involved leaving little time for songs or gigs. This is all set to change in October '09 when the whole band will be attending university in Cork... hellz yeah.
