Father Koi
About Father Koi
A native of Queens, New York, Kara Lu began putting music on the internet as Father Koi in 2019 with her hit single "Halloween Dancer." "I'm a big haired disco kid, when you gonna ask me to dance with me?—" she sings, and her lyrical yet poignant sounds transport the listener to a scene featuring nostalgic old-fashioned roller rink. Like swimming through one’s thoughts, her sounds bring about dreamy reality through eidetic lyrics and ’60s-esque backing harmonies. Her debut album, "Late Afternoon National Anthem," was released May 22, 2020—produced, mixed, and mastered entirely by Lu— and it was followed in October by the double feature and hit single "Drown / Mind Crossing," exploring the aftermath of a relationship with honest and heartfelt lyrics.
Look out for a single on March 5th, where Lu will be taking a slightly different path in the genre of this next song, but will still retain her signature lush harmonies and full, ethereal instrumentation. Also check out Lift the Moondog, where she plays bass and lends her vocals. Read more on Last.fm.
