Biography
A fan of music from an early age, DJ Smark (Mark Egan) was born in Toronto, Canada & moved to the US when he was very young. In the summer of 2005, at the age of 20, he took the plunge into professional DJing, at first using just a computer and headphones at local & college parties. He touched turntables for the first time in January 2006, where in addition to his local party gigs he tried a few radio DJ stints for WMBR 88.1 FM. At the same time he began working as a local club promoter in Boston to lay the seeds for what would be a successful club DJ entrance in 2007 into Boston's reputable club scene.
In the summer of 2006 while living in Paris, France, DJ Smark managed to secure a special DJ appearance for a private event at a Paris lounge, La Taverne de Nesle. His European debut was so successful that his beats were pumped throughout both floors of the establishment for much of the night, and helped him secure several smaller gigs in Paris during his time abroad. It was during these months in Europe that his passion for house & dance music flourished. Upon his return to the US in August, DJ Smark finally began training on his own new tables. With the exception of a few lessons in the early months of 2006, nearly all of his talent on tables to this day is self taught.
Starting in August 2006, DJ Smark secured some of the largest events of his pre-club career. After DJing 10 large-scale college events in a period of 12 days at the end of August and early September, his notoriety began to spread throughout Boston. By winter of 2006, he had entered into discussions to begin his club career. January 2007 saw the transformation of DJ Smark from the college party world onto the Boston club stage, opening at Shine Lounge in Cambridge for NYC DJ Gaurav. He followed this performance with his debut at one of Boston's most notorious nightclubs, Rumor. Following these two debut performances, DJ Smark was featured opening at special events and doing main-time at Mantra, Vinalia, Aria, & Lounge 33. On the eve of his relocation to NYC, DJ Smark kicked off what became one of Boston's hottest summer night-spots in 2007, 711 Lounge @ 711 Boystlon.
Now in NYC, DJ Smark is poised to amaze NYC music lovers with his house & dance prowess. Having DJed in front of over 1,000 people, he is no stranger to crowd-thrilling. With his NYC debut now behind him (@ Le Souk on March 4th, 2008), DJ Smark is focusing on expanding his networks in NYC, Boston, Miami, & his home town of Toronto, while beginning to delve into his own track, remix, & beat production.
